Togetherness - Season‘s Feast
Wood Type: Basswood, Acrylic, Lacquer |
Size:2000mm L x 1300mm H x 50mm D | Complete:Nov 2025
Created by local woodcarving artist couple Vivian Law & Justin Chan in collaboration with local woodworking artisan Roy Ng, this 2.5-meter-long sculptural wooden dining set—a table and chairs—brings people closer together through its unique design.
The dining table is crafted from two wooden mountain sculptures representing day and night, breaking away from the standard four-legged design. It stands on a single mountain-shaped base, with every inch bearing the distinct marks of the artisan’s careful chiseling. Day symbolizes the “sun” of passing time, while night reflects Alvdalen’s “moon,” anchoring the design’s theme. The tabletop, made from locally reclaimed camphor wood, boasts a beautiful grain, formed by splitting a single piece of wood and joining it to create a large, mirrored surface—an ingenious and striking design choice. With no assigned seating, the table encourages strangers to share the space and spark conversation.
Togetherness - Seasonal Feast
Alvdalen aims to connect nature, food, and people through this sculpture-furniture collaboration. The “Togetherness” series has always been the defining theme of Alvdalen’s furniture creations.
The concept of “Togetherness” captures the endless cycle of day and night, symbolizing constant companionship no matter the time or place. The vitality of the sun and moon flows down from towering mountains through storms, nourishing the earth with seasonal crops across the four seasons, perfectly aligning with our desires for health and flavor.
Inspired by life in the New Territories’ countryside, the artist creates two large mountain sculptures symbolizing the cycle of day and night. Flanking a bench, intricate carvings and vibrant colors illustrate the rural landscapes of the four seasons, alongside the iconic kapok tree in its seasonal transformations, inviting viewers to appreciate the simple, natural beauty of rustic life.
